The Cortina Sliding Centre (previously the Eugenio Monti Sliding Track), in Cortina d’Ampezzo and rebuilt for Milano Cortina 2026, will host the high-octane events of bobsled, luge, and skeleton from February 10–20, 2026. Named after Italy’s legendary bobsledder, this historic venue in the heart of the Dolomites offers breathtaking views and intense competition. The track’s €100+ million renovation is well underway, with 70% of the work already completed — including all of the slope grading. Still to come are the roof installation, construction of the start and finish buildings, and environmental restoration efforts, such as replanting trees.
Why It’s Special: With its Olympic legacy, it draws top athletes like U.S. bobsledder Kaillie Humphries, aiming for a fifth Olympic medal, and German luger Felix Loch, the youngest triple gold medalist in luge history. The 1,700-meter track, with 16 curves and speeds up to 130 km/h, promises heart-pounding races. This track hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics, where Monti himself competed.
Fun Fact: Eugenio Monti, nicknamed the “Flying Redhead” for his fiery hair and fearless races, won six Olympic medals and was the first athlete to receive the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship after donating a bolt from his bobsled to a competitor in 1964.
